Description

Description
Deciduous or semi-evergreen fern with thick rhizomes and crowns of broadly lanceolate fronds up to 36 inches long. Grows in damp woodlands and in hilly and mountainous areas.
Common Uses
It is good for sores, boils, carbuncles, swollen glands and epidemic flu. It inhibits bleeding of a hot nature, and is combined with cedar leaves for uterine bleeding. With other alteratives like honeysuckle, forsythia, and dandelion, it treats toxic blood conditions.

Description
Its shape is reminiscent of Ginseng root. The simple stems range from 3 to 30 inches high, rising from the apex of a blunt tuber-like rhizome from one half to one and a half inches thick. The leaves are from 2 to 15 inches long, and are net veined and somewhat mottled.
Common Uses
It is antiseptic, astringent, and tonic expectorant, being used principally in hemorrhages, and to promote parturition. Externally, it is usually used in the form of a poultice, as a local irritant in skin diseases, or to restrain gangrene.

Description
A perennial herb with a thick rhizome and a basal rosette of coarsely toothed palmately divided leaves. The tall, robust, hollow, finely furrowed stem is branched toward the top and bears terminal panicles of reddish to greenish-white flowers.
