Ginseng

Description
Small, perennial herb with palmate, compound leaves, an umbel of greenish-white flowers in summer and red berries in autumn. Height: Up to 25 inches.
Common Uses
Ginseng has been shown to improve resistance to stress and enhance mental and physical performance. It is especially effective for those experiencing sleep deprivation, exposure to environmental stress (like extreme heat/cold), and those working under demanding conditions (high stress environments.) It has also been shown in multiple studies to be adaptogenic, affecting different people in different ways according to what their bodies need--stimulating mental function, reducing fatigue, and improving mood and overall quality of life.
History
Sometimes called the "king of herbs," ginseng been used medicinally in Asia for over 5,000 years. At times, this plant has been valued more highly than gold. In 1904, it was reported that every single person in China used ginseng in some form.
