Description

Crampbark is a deciduous shrub or tree with spreading branches growing to 13 feet with lobed leaves and white flowers in June. The flowers are followed by red, oval, and very acidic berries resembling low cranberries and sometimes substituted for them.




Common Uses

Crampbark is effective at relieving any over-tense muscle, whether it be smooth muscle in the intestines, airways, or uterus; or striated muscle in the limbs or back. It may be taken internally or applied topically to relieve muscle tension.




History

The Meskwaki people of North America took crampbark for cramps and pains throughout the body, while the Penobscot used it to treat swollen glands and mumps.
