Blue Vervain

Description

Deep blue flowers on dense, bristly flower spikes, this perennial grows 3-5 feet in height. It has opposite leaves with toothed lobes.




Common Uses

Alterative and detoxifying, as well as a natural tranquilizer. Blue vervain is also used restore and increase blood circulation and helps people heal after acute diseases. It can also treat stomach aches and worms.




History

California Indians made a flour from its roasted, ground seeds. The Chippewa snuffed the dried flowers to treat bloody noses, and in the ancient Greek and Roman cultures, this plant was used in many rituals.
