Description

Erect annual or biennial with pinnately lobed or entire leaves and yellow, violet, or lilac flowers. It bears a cylindrical fruit pod which is not constricted between the seeds. Height: Up to 1.5 meters




Common Uses

Black radish is rich in vitamin C and has documented antiviral activities against influenza. Because it contains raphanin (an antibacterial compound), black radish has been used successfully to inhibit staphylococcus and streptococci growth. It also helps eliminate intestinal pathogens.




History

Early Egyptians made oil from radish seeds and used the rest of the plant as food. In ancient times, it was used as a cough remedy. Black radish is rich in vitamins B and C and is a helpful laxative.
