White Pine

Description

Eastern white pine is an evergreen tree bearing 4-8 inch narrow cones. The tree is the largest conifer in the Northeast and can reach up to 100 feet in height.




Common Uses

The turpentine obtained from the resin of all pine trees is antiseptic, diuretic, rubefacient and verifuge. It is a valuable remedy used internally in the treatment of kidney and bladder complaints and is used both internally and as a rub and steam bath in the treatment of rheumatic affections.




History

White pines have been known to live for 400-500 years. Used for sail masts by the British Royal navy during colonial times, it became so popular with the English that they imported the trees to grow for themselves.
