Siberian Ginseng

Description

Thorny shrub that reaches heights of up to 8 feet. The root is woody and much larger than true ginseng root. It has several erect spiny stems with light great or brownish bark. The leaves are palm shaped and it produces a black berry.




Common Uses

Numerous studies have shown that Siberian ginseng increases endurance, improves reflexes, and aids concentration. It also appears to increase resistance to environmental stresses and stimulates immune response.




History

Russian athletes and cosmonauts have used Siberian ginseng for decades. By 1976, nearly 3 million Russians were using Siberian ginseng extract. Interestingly, it is neither Siberian nor true ginseng.
