Rhubarb Root

Family:
Polygonaceae
Latin Name:
Rheum palmatum

Description

A perennial herb with a thick rhizome and a basal rosette of coarsely toothed palmately divided leaves. The tall, robust, hollow, finely furrowed stem is branched toward the top and bears terminal panicles of reddish to greenish-white flowers.

CONSULT HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE USE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING. DISCONTINUE IF YOU EXPERIENCE DIARRHEA OR WATERY STOOL.

History

In China it has been used as a remedy for more than 4,000 years and is now cultivated there and in other eastern countries for pharmaceutical purposes.
