Description

Woody shrub with perennial root and biennial stems up to 5 feet, it is often prickly. Oval leaves have sharply serrated edges and clusters of small, white flowers appear in the upper axils. They are followed by cone-shaped clusters of red berries. Blooms: June-August




Common Uses

Excellent source of vitamin C, as well as vitamins A and B1. It has fever-reducing properties, and has been used to treat and prevent scurvy because of the vitamin C content. Raspberry is also effective for treating nausea.




History

Wild raspberries have been eaten since pre-historic times, and used medicinally for centuries for things like inflammation of the eyes, fever, boils, mouth diseases, dissolving tartar on teeth, and to speed up childbirth.
