Description

Tender stem with stalkless leaves growing in pairs. White-yellowish flowers grow in umbels, followed by tiny brown-black fruit. Blooms: July-August




Common Uses

Externally, pimpernel is used to treat wounds. Taken internally, pimpernel eases digestion, soothes respiratory complaints, and treats kidney and urinary diseases.




History

Pimpernel seeds are coated with sugar and eaten as a candy. Oil from the root is used to flavor sweets, and the leaves and shoots are used in salads.
