Description

Deciduous tree up to 25 feet high, with fast-growing, spreading branches. Leaves are tapering oblongs with serrated edges. Pale pink blossoms appear before leaves are fully open. The fruit surrounds a hard stone with an oil-filled kernel inside. Blooms: April




Common Uses

Laetrile, a substance found in the seeds, stimulates respiration, improves digestion, and gives a sense of well-being. The leaves are known to treat stomach problems and inflammation of the abdomen, as well as expelling worms from the system.




History

Chinese philosopher Confucius wrote about peaches as early as the 5th century B.C. In Europe, peach leaves were believed to expel worms from the body, heal warts, stop bleeding and speed the healing of sores and wounds.
